It is a surgical process performed to improve the appearance of the eyelids. It is usually known as eyelid surgery. The procedure can be done on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. It depends upon the patient’s needs and desired outcome.
During upper eyelid blepharoplasty, excess skin, and fat are removed from the upper eyelids to eliminate droopiness and restore a more youthful and refreshed appearance. The surgeon makes incisions along the natural creases of the eyelids. Allowing for discreet scars that are typically well-hidden when the eyes are open
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty targets puffiness and bags under the eyes. The surgeon makes incisions either inside the lower eyelid (transconjunctival approach) or just below the lower lash line (subsidiary approach) to remove or redistribute excess fat and tighten the underlying muscles and tissues.
Blepharoplasty is often performed as a cosmetic procedure to address signs of aging, such as :
Sagging skin
Wrinkles
Bags around the eyes.
However, it can also be performed for functional reasons if droopy eyelids obstruct the field of vision.
Recovery time
After blepharoplasty varies, but most patients can expect some bruising, swelling, and minor discomfort for a few days after the surgery. Cold compresses, pain medications, and eye drops may be recommended to alleviate these symptoms.
